Details for the 2007 Fair

The 71st annual Salt Lake County Fair will kickoff Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. at Salt Lake County Equestrian Park and Event Center, 11400 South 2200 West in South Jordan. The event runs from Aug. 15-18, and is open daily from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. The fair has a variety of free activities for all ages including concerts, a cruise and car show, hypnotists, a climbing wall and a comedy show. Country star Collin Raye will perform a free concert on the opening night of the festivities.

The Salt Lake County Fair has entertainment and activities for everyone to enjoy,” said Sarah Dibble, Salt Lake County Fair program coordinator, in a press release.

“Admission is free with only a $5 parking charge. We wanted to make it affordable so the community could participate in the family-friendly activities in the summertime, country atmosphere.”

Raye will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 15. Tickets are now available at the Salt Lake County Fair Grounds, and can also be picked up at all Salt Lake County Albertson's locations starting Saturday, Aug. 4.

The fair will have numerous free activities for children, such as a giant petting zoo, a climbing wall, a blacksmith exhibit, a one hour show from Hogle Zoo and an exhibit from Clark Planetarium. Ronald McDonald will make special appearances during the fair. Games, contests and crafts, including make-and-take ceramics and origami will take place daily. Other activities such as helicopter rides, hay and pony rides and a carnival will be available for a small fee.

Free activities for adults include a car show, a Wiseguys Comedy Club show, the Miss Salt Lake County Scholarship Pageant, hypnotists, a lumberjack show, a battle of the bands and fireworks. Guests can view a demolition derby for a minimal fee. For the cook in the family there is also the Dutch oven cooking contest, a cake decorating and cookie contest, and County Mayor Corroon's favorite – pie contests.

During the fair, road construction will continue to take place on streets near the fairgrounds. To minimize delays, the Salt Lake County Fair is easily accessible from 2200 West, Bangerter Highway, 1300 West or 2700 West.
